New York City Art Fair Week is upon us bringing with it no fewer than eight art fairs located throughout the City plus The Armory's two-pier presentation. Feeling stressed yet? Add into the mix the Whitney Biennial's opening and a slew of special art events to create art event chaos. To help steer through the din and plan your art travels, here's an overview of some of the highlights found in NYC through Sunday.
THE WHITNEY BIENNIAL
The Biennial opened last night (March 4) to its VIPs. Two additional cocktail party receptions takes place tonight. Museum members get special viewing hours today and tomorrow. Afterwards, the Biennial opens to the public. Also this week are special performances and screenings.
The Biennial was curated by Stuart Comer, Anthony Elms, and Michelle Grabner. Each curated a single floor of the exhibition.

ART FAIRS
An art fair planner would come in handy right about now (do they have these?). Following is a few of the major fairs. New for this year is the Clio Art Fair. Presenting artists unrepresented by NYC galleries, they are toting the work as free of commercial constraints and filled with expression.

THE ARMORY SHOW
Held from March 6 – 9 at Piers 92 & 94 in the Passenger Ship Terminals in New York City. Modern Art is presented in Pier 92 and Contemporary Art is presented in Pier 94. The fair is open daily from noon to 7 p.m.
Free shuttles are available between The Armory Show at Piers 92 & 94 and VOLTA NY at 82 Mercer.

MOVING IMAGE
Held from March 6 – 9, 2014 at the Waterfront New York Tunnel in Chelsea. The Opening reception will be held on Thursday (March 6) from 6 to 8 p.m.
The fair features moving image-based artworks, with a selection of international commercial galleries and non-profit institutions presenting single-channel videos and projections, video sculptures and other larger video installations.

FOUNTAIN ART FAIR
Held March 7 to 9 at 69th Regiment Armory. A VIP Preview will be held on Friday (March 7) from noon to 7 p.m. An Opening Night Reception follows from 7 p.m. to Midnight.
Fountain Art Fair is an “alternate art fair” presenting around 80 avant-garde galleries, artist collectives with a focus on cutting edge and emerging artists from the contemporary art and street art scenes.

VOLTA NY
Held from March 6 – 9, 2014 in SoHo. Previews and the Opening Party for VIP and press are held on Thursday. The fair opens to the public on Friday.
The art fair is an invitational of installations and works by artists who aim to challenge boundaries of contemporary art. The solo presentations by each gallery has the effect of visiting artist studio after studio.
VIP, ticketing and shuttles are shared with The Armory Show.

ARMORY ARTS WEEK EVENTS

BRONX SPEAKS: NO BOUNDARIES
Held Thursday (March 6) from 6 to 9 p.m at the Bronx Museum of the Arts. Presented by the Bronx Arts Alliance and features over 60 artworks selected by committee. Artists pull from the Bronx and international artists working in over 20 Bronx art spaces. The opening reception includes a live performance by hip-hp duo Circa '95. Shuttle service from The Armory. The show continues through March 9.

SPECIAL VIEWING: WALTER DE MARIA'S THE NEW YORK EARTH ROOM and THE BROKEN KILOMETER
Takes place on Saturday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Dia Art Foundation in Chelsea. The New York Earth Room (1977) is an interior earth sculpture and the third and only existing Earth Room sculpture executed by the artist. The other two were installed in Germany in 1968 and 1974. The Broken Kilometer, 1979, is composed of 500 solid brass rods, each measuring two meters in length and five centimeters in diameter. The rods are placed in five parallel rows of 100 rods each.
