EAST END, NY

A new music series at the Parrish launches on Friday and joins other area music series already in progress. Film screenings, artist presentations and new exhibitions are all on the list for this weekend. Here's where to find art and culture in the Hamptons and on the North Fork:

AMAGANSETT 

CRAZY MONKEY GALLERY - “9th Annual Art Competition” has an Opening Reception on Saturday from 5 to 7 p.m. The exhibition remains on view through Feb. 23.  The public is invited to visit the gallery and vote for their favorite artwork beginning this Friday. Winners will be announced on March 1 and the “Best in Show” winner will be awarded a feature show at the gallery.

Participating artists include Andrea McCafferty, Daniel Schoenheimer, Barbara Bilotta, June Kaplan, Jim Hayden, Jana Hayden, Bob Tucker, Ellyn Tucker, Mark E. Zimmerman, Lance Corey, Beth O’Donnell, Melissa Hin, Bobbie Brown, Beth Barry, Dianne Marxe, Anna Franklin and Sheila Rotner. EAST HAMPTON/SPRINGS 

GUILD HALL - “10th Annual Free Winter Film: A Bottle in the Gaza Sea" will screen on Sunday, Feb. 2, at 4:30 p.m. The hopeful drama stars Hiam Abbas. It is based on the award-winning novel by Valérie Zenatti. (2011. French, Arabic and Hebrew with English Subtitles. 99 minutes). Admission is free. The screening is in partnership with the East Hampton Library. Guild Hall is located at 158 Main Street  East Hampton, NY 11937. www.guildhall.org.

RIVERHEAD

MARTHA CLARA VINEYARDS - “Winter Jazz Series: The Latin Jazz Odyssey” will perform on Friday at 7:30 p.m. Doors open at 7 p.m. Admission is $20 in advance, $25 at the door, and includes a glass of wine. The four-piece band will perform Afro/Caribbean music, mambo instrumentals and jazz. The Vineyards are located at 6025 Sound Avenue, Riverhead, NY 11901. www.marthaclaravineyards.com.

SAG HARBOR

BAY STREET THEATRE - “Fireside Sessions with Nancy Atlas" featuring Jonny Rosch as guest performer takes place on Friday at 8 p.m. Admission is $20. The concert series continues every Friday night through February. Bay Street Theatre is located at 1 Bay Street, Sag Harbor, NY 11963. www.baystreet.org.

SOUTHAMPTON

SOUTHAMPTON CENTER - “Meet the New Director Reception" takes place on Saturday from 5 to 7 p.m. Michelle Thompson is the Southampton Center’s first Director. She was formerly the 92nd Street Y's Director of Adult Education and Arts. Reservations are required by emailing [email protected]. SOUTHAMPTON CULTURAL CENTER - "From Africa To Abstract: Journey of a People through Art and Image" has an Opening Reception on Saturday from 4 to 6 p.m. The exhibition remains on view through March 4. Exhibiting artists are Tina Andrews, Brent Bailer, Jacquelyn Flowers, Rosa Hanna Scott, Danny Simmons and Dianne Smith. The Southampton Cultural Center is located at 25 Pond Lane, Southampton Village, NY 11968. www.southamptonculturalcenter.org

WATER MILL

PARRISH ART MUSEUM - “The Lounge Series: Edith and Bennet” takes place on Friday at 6 p.m. Edith and Bennet will perform folk and roots music in the Parrish’s Lichtenstein Theater. Admission is $10 or free for members and students. Reservations are recommended. “The Lounge” is a new music series in which musicians perform in a cozy, living room-like setting with refreshments. The museum is located at 279 Montauk Hwy, Water Mill, NY 11976. www.parrishart.org.

WATERMILL CENTER - “SACRIFICE” by José Carlos Casado and “CHAMBRE” by Jack Ferver will be presented on Saturday. “SACRIFICE” will open at 3 p.m. The installation by Casado includes works created in residence  plus a large-scale animated projection to screen on the facade of the Watermill Center at dusk. “CHAMBRE” is a dance-theatre work and begins at 4 p.m. An Artist talk and reception will follow.
