Happy New Year! Ready for some art? There are two exhibitions with opening receptions that spring into the Hamptons art scene this weekend. A live music series with some serious star power and a free foreign film series also begin this weekend. This is also the final weekend to see exhibitions on view at Guild Hall Museum. They include  Short Stories and Other Embroideries” by Christa Maiwald and “Tracing Moran’s Romanticism & Symbolism”.

BRIDGEHAMPTON

KATHRYN MARKEL FINE ARTS - “Dealer’s Choice”, curated by Arlene Bujese, has an Opening Reception on Saturday from 5 to 7 p.m. The exhibition remains on view through Feb. 2.

The exhibition features abstract artists once represented by Arlene Bujese Gallery of East Hampton. Exhibiting artists include Mary Abbott, Elaine de Kooning, John Little, Calvin Albert, Will Barnet, William King, Stephanie Brody-Lederman, Darlene Charneco, Josh Dayton, Carol Hunt, and Fulvio Massi.

EAST HAMPTON/SPRINGS 

HARPER’S BOOKS - “Elizabeth Huey: Radiant Swim” has an Opening Reception on Saturday from 6 to 8 p.m. The exhibition remains on view through Feb. 18. Huey will exhibit paintings as well and photographs and collages that demonstrate her artistic process. Harper’s Books is located at 87 Newtown Lane, East Hampton, NY 11937. www.harpersbooks.com.

JOHN DREW THEATER – “10th Annual Free Winter Film Series” begins on Sunday, at 4:30 p.m. with a screening of A Bottle in the Gaza Sea. Based on an award-winning novel by Valérie Zenatti. (2011. French, Arabic and Hebrew with English Subtitles.)

SAG HARBOR

BAY STREET THEATRE – “Fireside Sessions with Nancy Atlas and Special Guest” series launches on Friday at 8 p.m. Sitting in with Atlas is Chad Smith from the Red Hot Chili Peppers. Tickets are $15 and are available at the door or online at www.baystreet.org.

GRENNING GALLERY – “Performance by Sara Hartman” as part of the closing reception for “Holiday Show” takes place on Friday beginning at 6 p.m. Hartman will be performing new, original works. The gallery is located at 17 Washington St, Sag Harbor, NY 11963. www.grenninggallery.com.

WATERMILL

PARRISH ART MUSEUM – GUIDED TOURS of the Permanent Collection will be held on Saturdays, Sundays and Wednesdays from 2 to 3 p.m. The tours are led by docents. The Parrish Art Museum is located at 279 Montauk Hwy., Water Mill, NY 11976. www.parrishart.org.
