New art exhibitions, the OLA Film Festival and Shakespeare outside are happening in the East End art scene this weekend. Here is this week's list of where to find art and culture in the Hamptons, the North Fork and Riverhead.
AMAGANSETT HISTORICAL ASSOCIATION – “Amagansett Art: Across the Years” is on view on Saturday and Sunday from 2 to 6 p.m. A Red Dot Closing Party will be held on Saturday from 2 to 5 p.m. The exhibition is located at Carriage House behind Miss Amelia’s Cottage, Main Street at Windmill Lane, Amagansett, NY 11930. www.amagansetthistory.org.
KARMA - "Matt Connors: Reverse Telescopes with Inflected Baffles" has an Opening Reception this evening (Thursday) from 6 to 8 p.m. The exhibition remains on view through Oct. 5. The gallery is located at 249 Main Street, Amagansett, NY 11930. www.karmakarma.org
JEDEDIAH HAWKINS INN BARN GALLERY - “HongJung Park” has an Opening Reception on Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. The gallery is located at 400 South Jamesport Ave., Jamesport, NY 11947. www.jedediahhawkinsinn.com.
THE LYCEUM GALLERY at Suffolk County Community College - "PAUL FARINACCI: BACK TO SCHOOL AND OTHER TALES OF WOE" presents an Artist Reception next Thursday (Sept 19) from 4 to 6 p.m. at college's Eastern Campus. The exhibition opened on Sept. 3 and continues through Oct. 26. Light refreshments will be served. Farinacci’s architectural sculptures and large-scale drawings seek to unmask hidden worlds behind the facades of suburban life.
RIVERHEAD FREE LIBRARY - “Video Screening and Discussion with Andrea Cote” takes place on Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. The discussion relates to Cote’s Riverhead-centric Community Public Art Project, “Eyes on Main Street.” Some of the personalities featured in the Art Project will be in attendance, including Pat Snyder, Patti Robinson, Danielle Gisiger, and Liz Strebel. SYLVESTER MANOR - "The Tempest" will be performed on Friday at 5:30 p.m. on Manor Lawn. Gates open at 4:30 p.m. The performance of William Shakespeare's play was directed by Madeline Savet. Tickets are $15 in advance, $20 at the door, students and children free. The Manor is located at 80 North Ferry Road, Shelter Island, NY 11964. TRIPOLI GALLERY OF CONTEMPORARY ART - “New Paintings” by Eric Freeman has an Opening Reception on Saturday from 6 to 8 p.m. The exhibition remains on view through Oct. 14. Freeman experiments with the traditional medium of oil on canvas in new ways. The gallery is located at 30 Jobs Lane, Southampton, NY 11968. www.tripoligallery.com.
PARRISH ART MUSEUM - "10th Annual OLA Film Festival" takes place Friday through Sunday. The festival opens at 5 p.m. on Friday with a screening of the documentary Innocente. The screening will be followed by live music by Mambo Loco on the terrace at 6 p.m. The film Tanta Agua will screen at 3 p.m. on Saturday, and the festival concludes on Sunday with a screening of the documentary Salvador Allende. Tickets for each film are $10 or free for members/students/children. The Mambo Loco performance is free with museum admission.
