A capacity crowd turned out on July 13 to help the Parrish Art Museum continue its summer-long christening of its new home in Water Mill at the first Midsummer Party to be held in the Herzog and DeMeuron-designed building.
Dressed up in decor by Ron Wendt Design and with catering by Olivier Cheng, the 2013 Midsummer Party’s sold-out dinner and sold-out “After Ten” dancing, drinks and dessert party that followed it netted the Parrish $1 million, according to PR and Marketing Director Mark Segal.
Aiming at a slightly younger (and hipper?) demographic, the “After Ten” affair featured music by Brooklyn deejay David Longstreth of Dirty Projectors and special installations and performances programmed by Kyle Hardin DeWoody, Andrea Grover and Tripoli Patterson—including installations by Aakash Nihalani—in spaces designed by DeWoody.
Among the A-list artists, collectors, philanthropists, performers and social set who turned out to support the museum and its director, Terrie Sultan, were Ross Bleckner, Beth Rudin DeWoody, Sharon Bush, and Tony Ingrao and Randy Kemper, to name only a few of the nearly 1,000 who bought up all the tickets.
Dedicated art lovers in the crowd could peruse the Parrish exhibitions during the evening, "Alice Aycock Drawings: Some Stories Are Worth Repeating" and "Platform: Josephine Meckseper," though most devoted their energy and attention to supporting the museum by celebrating its new location and building the old-fashioned way, by having a good time.
