This weekend is a big one for the Hamptons art scene. Guild Hall opens a trio of exhibitions to welcome the season. Gallery Valentine and Karma each hold their first exhibitions for 2013. As usual, there are plenty of new art shows and events to keep art lovers busy.
AMAGANSETT
KARMA - “ART RELAX: Nate Lowman and Leo Fitzpatrick” has an Opening Reception on Saturday from 6 to 8 p.m. The exhibition remains on view through July 1. The gallery is located at 249 Main Street, Amagansett, NY 11930. www.karmakarma.org

PETER MARCELLE GALLERY – “Gavin Zeigler: A Thirty Year Retrospective of Painting and Sculpture, 1983 – 2013” has an Opening Reception on Saturday from 6 to 8 p.m. Zeigler creates mixed media paintings using everyday objects with a focus on surface, pattern, and color. ASHAWAGH HALL - “Gabriele T. Raacke and Phyllis Kriegel” has an Opening Reception on Saturday from 5 to 8 p.m. Kriegel will exhibit her series “After Baubo,” which is inspired by a stone figure from the 5th century BCE. Raacke will exhibit reverse-painting-on-glass works inspired by her childhood memories of the circus in Germany. ERIC FIRESTONE GALLERY - “SEAFOAM” by Bäst has an Opening Reception on Saturday from 6 to 8 p.m. Bäst is an anonymous NYC based artist and will be exhibiting paintings and sculptures. GALLERY VALENTINE - "Tigran Tsitoghdzyan and Stepahanie Hirsch" help open the gallery's new location at 33 Newtown Lane. An invitation-only reception takes place on Saturday from 5 to 8 p.m. The gallery is now open for the season. www.galleryvalentine.com.
GUILD HALL - “Artists & Writers: They Played in the Game” opens on Saturday with a reception from 5 to 7 p.m. and remains on view through July 28. The exhibition features works by artists who have played in the annual Artists & Writers Softball Game. The 65th Annual Artists & Writers Game will take place on Aug 17.

“John Alexander” opens on Saturday with a reception from 5 to 7 p.m. and remains on view through July 28. Alexander will exhibit a new body of work that includes natural landscape paintings.
“Joel Perlman” opens on Saturday with a reception from 5 to 7 p.m. and remains on view through Oct 14. Perlman will exhibit welded steel, bronze, aluminum, and iron sculptures in the Frieda and Roy Furman Sculpture Garden and the Wasserstein Family Gallery.

GUILD HALL and THE HAMPTONS INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL - “SummerDoc: Twenty Feet From Stardom” will be presented on Saturday at 8:30 p.m. The film, directed by Morgan Neville, explores the stories of little-known backup singers behind famous figures in music history. SOUTHAMPTON CULTURAL CENTER - “The Flower Show” has a Reception to celebrate the dedication of a garden planted by the Rose Society at Southampton Cultural Center today (Friday) from 5 to 7 p.m. The reception includes remarks by Mark Epley, the Mayor of the Village of Southampton and Hal Goldberg, the President of the Rose Society.
Participating artists in “The Flower Show” include Ronnier Chalif, Jennifer Cross, Felisa Dell, Sue Ferguson Gussow, Cornelia Foss, Alice Forman, Sheila Isham, Fay Lansner, Gerson Leiber, and William Rayner. The show was curated by Arlene Bujese. The exhibition remains on view through July 7.
