Springs Improvement Society's 29th Annual Members Show takes place on Memorial Day Weekend
The Springs Improvement Society invites you to join us for the 29th Annual Members Show taking place at Ashawagh Hall in Springs over Memorial Day Weekend.
An Opening Reception will be held on Friday, May 24, 2013 from 5 to 8 p.m. The exhibition continues through Monday, May 27, 2013. Ashawagh Hall will be open from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday and from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Monday.
There is a $5 admission for the exhibition opening on Friday. The opening includes wine and hor d'oeuvres. Proceeds go towards the maintenance of Ashawagh Hall, which is located in Springs outside of East Hampton Village.
The Springs Improvement Society is responsible for the care and upkeep of the historical hall that traditionally provides a low-cost place for artists to hold exhibitions and special events.
The annual Members Show is a big draw for artists and art lovers alike. The popular exhibition brings together new and established artists in an art show that celebrates the diversity of the art community.
Ashawagh is the American Indian word for "place where two roads come together." This is the perfect way to describe the location of this community center in the Springs section of East Hampton, where Fireplace Road joins Old Stone Highway.
The Springs Improvement Society chose this name when it purchased the former school building in 1909 for a dollar. As it was then, the hall is rented out for local parties and gatherings. Many art shows and fundraisers set up here. A major renovation was held several years ago and now a full-service kitchen, recently renovated bathrooms and open spaces with wood floors are available for use.
The Springs Improvement Society also hosts the annual Artists of the Springs Invitational. The exhibition is held in August to coincide with the Fisherman's Fair. This exhibition also raises funds for the maintenance of Ashawagh Hall.
