DISPATCH - APRIL 18, 2013 (7:30 a.m.)

SOUTHAMPTON, NY-

Tonight's the night when creative and bold bras are modeled for auction to benefit breast cancer organizations based in the Hamptons. The annual sexy night of fashion is a favorite for its outrageous bras designed by artists, clothing designers and the creative plus the dramatic bravado of the local people who model them in front of a crowd.

The Reconstructed Bra Fashion Show and Auction takes place tonight (April 18) at 7 p.m. at the Southampton Social Club in Southampton, NY. The fundraiser benefits the Heaven Can Wait Team of Southampton and their participation in the LI2Day Walk for Breast Cancer.

The Long Island-based walk for breast cancer raises money for organizations of each team's choosing. The Southampton team's funds will benefit Lucia’s Angels, the Coalition for Women’s Cancers at Southampton Hospital and the Ellen Hermanson Breast Center. The LI2ay Walk for Breast Cancer will take place on June 8 and 9.

But for tonight, fun and laughter are planned. So are a new crop of original bras. Following is a quick peek at some of the bras to be auctioned:

.

"Juxtapose" by Amy Musto.

.

"Garden of Eden" by Erin Hattrick.

.

"Sparkle & Shine" by Christine Laureano.

.

"Supa-Bra" by Karyn Mannix.

.

"Pheonix" by Yuka Silvera.

.

"Gold Finger Bond Girl" by Beverly Deak.

.

"Bra Bra Black Sheep"

.

The Reconstructed Bra Fashion Show and Auction typically sells out so advance tickets are recommended. If available, tickets will be sold at the door. Tickets are $45 in advance and $55 at the door. Appetizers and an open bar are included. Advance tickets can be purchased in Southampton at Catena’s Market, the Southampton Social Club and the Breast Center at Southampton Hospital.

The Reconstructed Bra Fashion Show and Auction is the result of people pulling together and volunteering their time to raise money to battle cancer. The bras are made and donated by volunteers. Models walking the catwalk, donning the fanciful undergarments, also donate their time and talent.

Besides raising money for worthy cause, the evening is a fun one featuring outrageous intimate garments. Designs range wildly from the fantastical to sexy with a twist. Last year’s designs included bras that conjured a futuristic “warrior princess” and designs including lights, glitter, feathers or fringe. One design featured black roses with steel foliage to represent a metaphorical balance between beauty and strength. Another design paid homage to Tesla, the 19th century scientist and inventor, with a representation of the learned man’s foray into the land of women’s wear.
