New art exhibitions spring up this weekend even while January is in full swing. Here's what's new in the Hamptons galleries and in the East End art scene.

EAST HAMPTON/SPRINGS 

ASHAWAGH HALL - “Art in the New Year” has an opening reception on Saturday from 5 to 8 p.m. The exhibition continues through Jan 21. Exhibiting artists are Cynthia Loewen, Lynn Martell, Mary Milne, Alyce Peifer, Jerry Schwabe, John Todaro and Pam Vossen. The exhibition is open on Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and on Monday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Ashawagh Hall is located at 780 Springs Fireplace Rd, Springs, NY. www.ashawagh-hall.org

DAVENPORT AND SHAPIRO FINE ART - "New At the Gallery" this month are works by abstract painter Adam Daily, sculptor Peter Goldwater, and "Enchantment" by Harriette Joffe. RIVERHEAD

EAST END ARTS - “Diversity” opens today (Jan 18) and remains on view through March 8. An artist reception will be held on Feb 1 from 5 to 7 p.m. The guest juror is Frank Wimberley. The gallery is located at 133 East Main Street, Riverhead, NY 11901. www.eastendarts.org

THE LYCEUM GALLERY AT SUFFOLK COUNTY COMMUNITY COLLEGE - "Selection of works by the Eastern Campus Faculty and Staff" opens on Tuesday, Jan 22, and remains on view through Feb 22. An opening reception takes place on Thursday, Jan 31 from 4 to 6 p.m. The Lyceum Gallery is located in the Montaukett Learning Resource Center on the Eastern Campus of SCCCC, 121 Speonk-Riverhead Road, Riverhead, NY 11901. 631-548-2536.

Exhibiting are JoAnne Dumas (Wading River), Ray Ellis (Stony Brook), John Stefanik (Sag Harbor), Cheryl Dorskind (Westhampton), Kathy Odell-Hamilton (Hampton Bays), Jannette Fischer (Center Moriches), Margery Gosnell-Qua (Remsenburg), Dawn Lee Diperi (Center Moriches), Linda Prentiss (Ronkonkoma) Al Feit (Riverhead), Beth Giles (Sag Harbor), and Christopher Vivas (Holbrook).

The gallery is open Mondays through Thursdays from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.; on Fridays from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.; and on Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

WATER MILL

PARRISH ART MUSEUM - “Inevitable Discovery: The Scientific Search for Life Beyond Earth” takes place tonight (Friday) at 6 p.m. Astronomer Matthew Pappas’ lecture is part of “(Sky)gaze,” one component of Hope Sandrow’s “Genius Loci,” an ongoing project at the Parrish. There will also be a guided telescope viewing between 4 and 8 p.m. Both events are free with museum admission. The museum is located at 279 Montauk Highway, Water Mill, NY. parrishart.org.
