This week is quiet on the Hamptons art front. That said, there are a few new exhibitions opening this weekend. Here's where to find them plus information on some upcoming art events.

AMAGANSETT

CRAZY MONKEY GALLERY - “Salon des Refuses” and a group member show have an opening reception on Saturday from 5 to 7 p.m. Both remain on view through Jan 27. "Salon des Refuses" is the gallery's fourth annual nude art invitational. The featured artist is featured guest artist is James Jahrsdoerfer. BRIDGEHAMPTON

PIERRE'S - Artwork by Maria Botkir will be exhibited at the restaurant from Jan 2 to 30. An opening reception will be held on Saturday from 3 to 6 pm. Pierre’s is located at 2468 Montauk Hwy, Bridgehampton, NY.

PETER MARCELLE GALLERY - “The Women, Part I” has been extended through Jan 20. Exhibiting works are Linda Capello, Miriam Dougenis, Cornelia Foss, Gina Gilmour, Sue Ferguson Gussow, Lori Hollander, Janet Jennings, Jane Johnson, Anna Jurinich, Karen Kluglein, Brooke Laughlin, Elizabeth Malunowicz, Mary McCormick, Michelle Murphy, Louise Peabody, Susan Lazarus Reimen, Alexandra Strada and others.

WATER MILL

PARRISH ART MUSEUM - "Astronomical Archetypes & the Origins of Mythology" - An Illustrated Lecture by astronomer Sean Tvelia will be presented today (Friday) at 6 p.m. The lecture compliments the "(Sky)gaze" conceptual installation by Hope Sandrow. Tvelia will discuss the relevance of constellation mythology to human civilization and the reasons why so many civilizations recognize the same celestial patterns. Admission is free for Parrish members and $10 for non-members. The museum is located at 279 Montauk Highway Water Mill, NY 11976. parrishart.org

 

UPCOMING:

Artist Malcolm Morley will provide insight into his solo exhibition "Malcolm Morley: Painting, Paper, Processat the Parrish Art Museum on Friday, Jan 11, at 6 p.m. Advance reservations to "The Artist's View: Malcolm Morley" are strongly recommended as space is limited. The talk is free for museum members and $10 for non-members. The exhibition is on view through Jan 13, 2013. For tickets, visit parrishart.org.
