The museum's opening also sees the launch of Platform. The new series is an  artist-driven approach to programming unfolding within the building and among the grounds of the new Parrish Art Museum. All of the new spaces are up for creative grabs: from the corridors to the café to the covered porches and terraces. Artists view the entire museum as a "potential canvas" for art that can "transcend disciplinary boundaries," according the museum.

Each quarter, a new artist or collective will be invited to create museum-wide works in respond to the spaces and places of the Museum. The intent is to encourage new ways of experiencing art, architecture, and the landscape, according to the museum. Potential projects could include time-based art, performance, sound installation, social practice art, participatory events and emerging forms of creative expression. Platform is organized by Curator of Programs Andrea Grover.

Southampton artist Hope Sandrow was selected for the inaugural Platform Project. "Genius Loci" will be ready for experiencing in time for all of the Open House events.

"Genius Loci" (the prevailing spirit of a place) is a series of installations that integrate art and cultural objects used in rituals and ceremonies that mark a beginning or rite of passage, according to the museum. Sandrow's practice often involves intensive historical research into site and place. "Genius Loci" will evoke symbols of new life and good fortune, making reference to the numerous cultures that have enlivened the history of the East End.

"Genius Loci" will remain on view from November 2012 through January 2013.

Inaugurating the art galleries are the unveiling of selections from the museum's collection installed in the Permanent Collection Galleries and the temporary exhibition "Malcolm Morley: Painting, Paper, Process." "Malcolm Morley: Painting, Paper, Process" remains on view from Nov 10, 2012 to Jan 13, 2013.
