DISPATCH - JULY 18, 2012 (7:28 a.m.)

BRIDGEHAMPTON, NY

ArtHamptons is known for presenting an art fair energized with art, events, celebrity sightings and the opportunity to meet up with plenty of Hamptons artists, collectors and art lovers. This year was no exception.

Held on the grounds of Nova's Ark Project, art greeted fair goers even before entering the sprawling white building constructed for the event.

Figurative work seemed to dominate this year's fair. Abstraction had a strong showing. Contemporary and Modern works were both presented. Scultpure, painting, photography and mixed media works were all represented.

Here's a snapshot of some of the art and the art professionals appearing at this year's ArtHamptons:

  1. The show pictures you have posted look great and give an insight as to what was going on at the exhibition. I wonder though about copyright infringement in so many photographs, collages and even oil painitngs that use other artists’ images. All of those images can’t be in the public domain. How do galleries get around this when they make sales?

    • Hi Gerry-
I’m glad you liked my selection. Appropriation seems to be the art movement of the moment. If the composition is changed, I believe it bypasses copyright troubles. It’s also possible that the root images are licensed before the photographer or artist begins working with them. What’s appropriation and what’s stealing is a compelling discussion.
