Pavel Kraus was born in 1946 in Czechoslovakia and arrived in Chicago in 1969. Here he received an MFA at the School of Art Institute of Chicago in 1974. He has lived in New York City since 1984 and since 2000 has worked in his studio in DUMBO, Brooklyn.
His work has been reviewed in many art publications, including a number of reviews in Art in America. In his career, his artwork has been richly diverse in terms of technique, materials, and thematic concerns. His work encompasses an exploration of abstraction and figuration in paintings, sculptures, installations, and collaborative theater pieces. Today, Kraus utilizes both organic and non-organic sculptural elements on a more intimate scale. His most recent solo show, “Enigma”, curated by David Ebony has been documented in a full color catalogue and is available on his website.
Pavel Kraus's art has been exhibited at Chase Edwards Contemporary Fine Art, Atelier Courbet, BKYLN DESIGNS, Select Art Fair, Clio Art Fair and The 24th Annual National Arts Club Roundtable Exhibition.
