East End Writers Read at Toni Ross Parrish Road Show Installation

As part of this year's Parrish Road Show, five East End writers, Kathy Engel, Paul Goldberger, Joseph Pintauro, Iris Smyles, and Frederic Tuten read this Friday, August 26 from 6 to 7 pm at Toni Ross’s installation, Permanent Transience at Marders BridgehamptonSpace is limited, so RSVP here for guaranteed entry. In Permanent Transience, Toni Ross juxtaposes materials through an on-site installation of sculpted straw bales that intersect and envelop three large boulders. Ross is interested in how the intersection of diverse materials that can defy logic. Click here for details on the event.

Guild Hall's The Garden as Art: Water Vistas

From August 26 to 27, 2016, Guild Hall will present a program highlighting the Garden as Art. This year's theme is Water Vistas. Events include a cocktail reception on Friday, a breakfast, a panel discussion, and a self-guided tour of water-sensitive private gardens on Saturday. A luncheon for benefactor ticket holders is slated for Saturday following the presentation. For the full schedule, click here.  Tickets start at $100.

Southold Historical Society's Exhibition & Auction 

The Southold Historical Society hosts an Exhibition & Auction on Saturday, August 27, 2016 with a preview at 6 p.m. and a live auction beginning at 6:45 p.m. The benefit will be held at Castello di Borghese Vineyard in Cutchogue on the North Fork. The exhibition includes work by Alan Bull, EJ Camp, Randee Daddona and others.  Tickets are $50 and benefits the Southold Historical Society. Click here for details.

16th Annual Box Art Auction 2016

“The 16th Annual Box Art Auction” benefiting East End Hospice will take place on Saturday, August 27, 2016, from 4:30 to 8 p.m., at St. Luke’s Hoie Hall in East Hampton. This year’s auctioneer is Lucas Hunt. Prominent artists from the East End incorporate either a wine box or a cigar box to create unique, collectible works of art to be sold in either a silent or live auction. Screening of Under the Gun at Southampton Arts Center

React to Film will present the documentary Under the Gun at Southampton Arts Center on Sunday, August 28, 2016 at 7 p.m. The film examines the gun debate in the United states and the people and events that have kept the dispute fierce. Through the lens of families impacted by the mass shootings across the country  as well as those who experience daily gun violence in Chicago, the documentary probes what progress is being made at state and local levels and why politicians are finding it difficult to act. The film is executive produced and narrated by Katie Couric. A Q&A follows the screening with panel members including John Feinblatt, President of Everytown USA & Joe Quint, Spokesman for Moms Demand Action NY.
