An Author Talk and book signing for Jean Shafiroff’s Successful Philanthropy: How to Make a Life By What You Give was hosted by the Southampton Historical Museum on Saturday, July 2, 2016 drawing a crowd of notable fans and providing insight into current philosophy in philanthropy. The event kicked off with a welcome by Tom Edmonds, Executive Director of the Southampton Historical Museum, followed by an introduction by Bob Challoner, president and CEO of the Southampton Hospital.

The book, which Georgina Bloomberg wrote the introduction for, is a practical guide to modern giving that redefines philanthropy for the current times. Describing philanthropy today as far more than making monetary donations, Jean Shafiroff points out that giving time and knowledge can be just as valuable as financial contributions. Her book, Successful Philanthropy, offers the practical guidance and inspiring perspective that empowers all of us to take part in building a better world.
Jean Shafiroff is an active philanthropist herself as both a volunteer fundraiser and leader of several charitable causes. She is known for her managerial skills, enthusiastic dedication and taking a hands-on approach. Her particular interests include charities related to women, health care, animals and the people of the cities she calls home; specifically, Southampton and New York City. Shafiroff has been involved with raising money for Southampton Hospital, New York Women’s Foundation, NYC Mission Society, Southampton Animal Shelter, American Cancer Society, Southampton Bath and Tennis Club’s Charitable Foundation and others, according to her website.
Jean holds an MBA from the Graduate School of Business at Columbia University and a BS in physical therapy from Columbia University’s College of Physicians and Surgeons. She has worked both in public finance and private partnerships on Wall Street. Jean is married to Martin Shafiroff, an investment advisor, and together they have two daughters, Jacqueline and Elizabeth. The family resides in New York City and Southampton.
