A Call for Artists has been issued for the 9th Annual Governors Island Art Fair. But hurry:  the deadline to apply is June 1, 2016.

Artists are sought for all disciplines for indoor spaces and sculpture for outdoor installations for the September art event. The call is an international one and includes painting, photography, sculpture, installation, video, sound art and design. The Governors Island Art Fair is one of the largest independent exhibition held in New York City, according to organizers. The month-long exhibition embraces an art fair presentation and typically features 100 artists who have been invited to participate from the pool of applicants.

Each exhibiting artist is given a room or large outdoor space in the historic and dilapidated buildings of Colonels Row. Making use of the unusual setting of abandoned military barracks allows the line between artwork and environment to combine in interesting ways as set among the lawn and landmark houses of Governors Island.

The Governors Island Art Fair is founded by 4heads, a group of New York artists who present an annual art fair that puts artists in the driver's seat. During the art fair, artists are expected to be present and available to discuss their work and installation.
