A team of curators and artists organized this year's Martos Gallery summer exhibition on the East End, breaking tradition from the past. “Another, Once Again, and Many Times More” is the title of the fifth annual Martos Gallery summer exhibition, on view from July 12 through September 1, 2014 at the New York gallery’s East End location at 12395 Main Road in East Marion on the North Fork. Gallery hours after the opening reception on Saturday, July 12, 2014 will be from 2 to 6 p.m. Friday through Sunday.

The first three Martos Gallery summer shows were presented at venues on the South Fork, either in Bridgehampton or Sagaponack. Last year’s sprawling group show, titled “LAT. 41° 7′ N., LONG. 72° 19′ W,“ was the Chelsea gallery’s first summer show on the North Fork, presented at the same venue as this year’s, the home of art dealer Jose Martos and artist Servane Mary.

Possibly taking a page from the new format of the Whitney Biennial this year, curator Bob Nickas, the sole organizer of the previous summer shows, invited a number of artists to serve as curators of discrete exhibitions in different spaces at the site, in effect creating what a release from the gallery described as “shows-within-the show.”

At this year’s Whitney Biennial, the museum broke new ground by giving three different curators one floor each, where they could organize their own exhibitions of contemporary art without reference or corresponding to the others.

For this summer’s Martos Gallery exhibition, the breakdown of artist/curators and their different exhibitions in different spaces is as follows:

On the first floor of the house, visitors will find a show organized by Walead Beshty and Kelley Walker.

On the second floor, a show organized by Carol Bove will include works by Katherine Bernhardt and Youssef Jdia, Elaine Cameron-Weir, Robert Greene, Wade Guyton, Janine Lariviere, Harry Smith, Jack Smith, a large selection from Barry Rosen's seashell collection, and a piece by an anonymous artist.

According to the gallery release, the overall title of the show, "Another, Once Again, Many Times More," is in tribute to the artist and art dealer known simply as Hudson, the founder of the Lower East Side gallery Feature Inc., who died earlier this year.
