The Hamptons art scene begins to wake in April. New galleries arrive and existing ones reopen for the season. LongHouse Reserve opens this weekend and the Parrish launches its 2014 exhibition season next weekend. Following is the short list of where to find the first bloom of the 2014 Hamptons art season.

LONGHOUSE & PARRISH OPENS 2014 SEASON

LONGHOUSE RESERVE – Opens for the season with its annual “Rites of Spring” on April 19 from 2 to 5 p.m. New installations for this year are the “Health of the Planet” series by multi-media artist Steve Miller and a 75-foot white pine installation by woodworker Fitzhugh Karol.  LongHouse Reserve is located at 133 Hands Creek Road, East Hampton, NY  11937.  www.longhouse.org.

PARRISH ART MUSEUM – “Jennifer Bartlett:  History of the Universe – Works 1970 – 2011” opens on April 27 and launches the museum's 2014 summer schedule. A “Members’ Reception” for the show will be held on May 3 from 5 to 8 p.m. The exhibition is a major museum survey of Bartlett's art, featuring 22 works from each of her creative periods and series. These range from signature plates to architectural combinations of paintings and sculptures to diptychs and triptychs. Through July 13.

GALLERIES LAUNCH THE 2014 SEASON

KATHRYN MARKEL FINE ARTS – “Spring Opening” will open on April 19 with an Opening Reception held on  from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.  The gallery will showcase paintings by gallery artists Svetlana Rabey, Josette Urso, Marilla Palmer, Justine Hill, Paul Behnke, Meredith Pardue, Gudrun Mertes Frady and Don Martiny. Through June 27.

TRIPOLI GALLERY –  “Side X Side” opened on April 5 and launches the gallery for the Season. A Reception will be held on May 3 from 6 to 8 p.m. The group show includes works by Linda K. Alpern, Jonathan Beer, Herbie Fletcher, Eric Freeman, Felix Bonilla Gerena, David Matterhorn, Melanie J. Moczarksi, Lola Montes, Matisse Patterson, Saul Steinberg, Nick Weber, Darius Yektai and Yung Jake. Through May 10.

LA MAISONETTE GALLERY – The gallery opened for the season with “Sag Harbor Clay” on April 12.  The exhibition will feature the works of Sag Harbor ceramic artists Eve Behar, Lynn Charveriat, Eva Cocco, Chris Fanjul, Beverly Granger, Lori Larsen, Alessandra Novak and Nancy Robbins. The works on view include stoneware, porcelain vessels and sculpture. Through May 15.

The gallery is located on the Second Floor. La Maisonette is an interior design concept store featuring antiques, textiles, objets d'art, and European art from the 19th and 20th centuries. La Maisonette Gallery is located at 133 Main Street, Sag Harbor, NY 11963.  www.lamoisonette-newyork.com.

 NEW TO THE HAMPTONS ART SCENE

CHASE EDWARDS GALLERY – “Spring Awakening” is on view at this new art gallery in Bridgehampton.  The show features the works of Nils Bruun, Brenda Hope Zappetell, Carla Goldberg, Tjasa Owen, Janet Jennings and Edward Joseph. The gallery exhibits paintings, sculptures and functional pieces by established and emerging artists.

DODDS & EDER GALLERY - Launches a seasonal gallery with curator Kathy Zeiger at the helm. Invited co-curators will present changing exhibitions of Long Island artists the through Labor Day. The first show opened on April 11 and has an Opening Reception on April 26 from 4 to 6 p.m. The group show presents paintings by Maria Shoen, sculpture by James Demartis and John Cino and textile designs by Casey Dalene.

Dodds & Eder HOME is a new venture owned by Dorothy Simons and Cary Leopold, who are former employees of Dodds & Eder. Dodds & Eder HOME will present outdoor furniture and art. They are located at 11 Bridge Street, Sag Harbor, NY. www.doddsandederhome.com.
