Fountain Art Fair returns to the 69th Regiment Armory featuring over 80 galleries, artists collectives, artists, performers and two late-night receptions with live music.

The fair opens tonight (Friday) with a VIP preview from noon to 7 p.m. with the Opening Night Reception held from 7 p.m. to Midnight with music by DJ Nick Zinner.at 7 p.m. The event benefits the Detroit Institute of Art. Of note, is a high-flying performance curated by Grace Exhibition Space in collaboration with Analog/Analogue and DJ set by Nick Zinner of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs. At 7 p.m., the DJ collective The Deep provides the dance party.

Exhibitors this year include galleries from Austria, Canada, Croatia, France, Germany, Japan, South Korea, and across the United States. Innovations for the New York 2014 edition will include the debut of daily panel discussions from 12:30 p.m. to 2 p.m., with an emphasis on reaching new collectors and art lovers.

Fountain Art Fair is an “alternate art fair” presenting avant-garde galleries, artist collectives with a focus on cutting edge and emerging artists from the contemporary art and street art scenes.

Special exhibitions in the 2014 New York City edition include OF LANDSCAPE, an interactive media installation presented by Parker Projekts and curated by Andrea Wolf of Brooklyn’s REVERSE Gallery. The installation will feature work from artists Allison Berkoy, CHiKA and Andrea Wolf, and a project by Floating Point Collective allows visitors to collaboratively build a virtual world with their gestures.

Mighty Tanaka returns to curate Fountain’s street art installation, featuring floating canvases from Chris Stain, Alice Mizrachi, Skewville, Cake, Chris RWK, Joe Iurato, Rubin, EKG, gilf!, OMEN and LNY.

Performance art will unfold through the fair. Visitors can expect a range of playful, interactive, unpredictable and challenging works throughout the fair.

Other artists to look out for include Caitlin Baucom, Evan Wargon, Christie Blizard, Heidi Haire, Pell Mell, and Elizabeth Rowe.

Some of the performance art have scheduled times. They begin on Friday at 3 p.m. with Perfect Fifth on the Center Stage. Wokka Wokka continues at 4 p.m. and Pell Mell Air Jordans begin at 5 p.m. with Eames Armstrong following at 6:30 p.m. The evening performances conclude with Jenna Klein:3 at 7:30 p.m.

Additional scheduled performances take place on Sunday on the Center Stage.

BASIC FACTS: Fountain Art Fair presents its eight edition from March 7 to 9, 2014 at 69th Regiment Armory. A VIP Preview will be held on March 7 from noon to 7 p.m. with the Opening Night Reception held from 7 p.m. to Midnight with music by DJ Nick Zinner.

Admission is $10 for a Daily pass, $15 for a Weekend Pass, and $50 for a VIP Pass.
