Hamptons artists contribute to the New York City art scene with new art exhibition openings and continuing shows in January.

Following is a select list of art exhibitions on view in New York City with a Hamptons connection. Exhibitions opening this month are listed first. Those closing within the month are listed next. Hamptons @NYC is continuously updated as new information arrives.

OPENING

JANUARY 4 (SATURDAY)

"EIGHT PAINTERS" has an Opening Reception on Jan. 4 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Kathryn Markel Fine Arts in Chelsea. The exhibition continues through Feb. 1. The show is organized by painter Paul Behnke and presents new and recent abstract work by Karen Baumeister, Behnke, Karl Bielik, James Erikson, Matthew Neil Gehring, Dale McNeil, Brooke Moyse, and Julie Torres.

JANUARY 9 (THURSDAY)

NON OBJECTIVITY II” has an Opening Reception on Jan. 9 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Walter Wickiser Gallery in Chelsea. The show continues through Jan. 29. Exhibiting are Roseline Koener, Mark Sharp, Desy Safan-Gerard and Alfie Fernandes. Koesner is based in Westhampton and New York City.

"MARGARET GARRETT - TURNING FIELDS" has an Opening Receipt on Jan. 9 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Birnam Wood Galleries in Chelsea. Garrett is based in Shelter Island, NY.

JANUARY 10 (FRIDAY)

"MARILYN CHURCH" has an Opening Reception on Jan. 10 from 7 to 9 p.m. at a pop up gallery at 555 Sixth Avenue at 15th Street. The solo show remains on view through Jan. 13. For information, email [email protected]. Church is based in East Hampton and New York City. www.marilynchurch.com.

CLOSING

JANUARY 8 (WEDNESDAY)

“SECOND ANNUAL YOUNG COLLECTORS EXHIBITION: SOLO SHOW BY LA2” closes on Jan. 8 at Leila Heller Gallery in Chelsea. A portion of the proceeds benefits Southampton Fresh Air Home, a camp for physically-challenged children that’s based in the Hamptons. All artworks are priced no more than $5,000.

LA2 is best known for his collaboration with Keith Haring in the 1980s. LA2 / LAROC (American, b. 1966) are the tags taken by Angel Ortiz. LAROC’s work was the subject of a solo show last summer at Lawrence Fine Art in East Hampton, NY.

JANUARY 12 (SUNDAY)

“ROUGE” closes on Jan. 12 at Cheryl Hazan Contemporary Art in Tribeca. Exhibiting artists are Makiko Azakami, Ilia Barger, Caroline Beauzon, Lori Cozen-Geller, Vicki DaSilva, Madeline Denaro, Sally Egbert, Karim Ghidinelli, Babette Herschberger, Noah Klersfeld, Nika Kovalenko, David Moore, Jeff Muhs, Neil Powell, Paul Rousso, Beatricia Sagar, Carolina Sardi, Russell Sharon, Jeremy Thomas and Bruce Tolman.

Muhs is based in Southampton. Egbert was formerly based in East Hampton.

JANUARY 20 (MONDAY)

“DOROTHEA ROCKBURNE: DRAWINGS WHICH MAKES ITSELFcontinues through Jan. 20, 2014 at the MoMA. The exhibition is located on the 3rd Floor in the Paul J. Sachs Drawings Galleries. The focus is on Rockburne’s works on paper. Rockburne’s work has been the subject of retrospectives at Guild Hall (1995) in East Hampton and at the Parrish Art Museum (2011) (in Southampton, at the time of the show).

JANUARY 25 (SATURDAY)

“ILYA & EMILIA KABAKOV” was extended and continues through Jan. 25, 2014 at Pace Gallery on 57th Street. The exhibition is the couple’s first at Pace and features seven paintings from several recent series plus a single installation. The Kabakovs are based on the North Fork.
