EAST HAMPTON, NY-

It's a Chuck Close weekend! Last night, Closes's solo show at Guild Hall opened during a VIP preview as part of Guild Hall's Summer Gala. Gala guests had the chance to chat with Close, photograph to their heart's content and mingle with the artist, some of the subjects of his artworks, and rub elbows with the cultural community of the Hamptons. Afterwards, guests retired to a private home in Bridgehampton to celebrate and view even more part that's part of a private collection.

The Chuck Close weekend at Guild Hall continues today (Saturday) with a gallery talk and a public Opening Reception of “Chuck Close: Recent Works”. Close speaks about his work in conversation with Robert Storr from 3 to 4 p.m. An Opening Reception follows from 4 to 6 p.m. This is the first Close's first exhibition at Guild Hall in over two decades.

Following is a brief look at the VIP Exhibition Opening at Guild Hall. Ready for some Chuck Close?

  1. Hi, great photos but a few mistakes in the captions. The first photo shows Cindy Sherman and Close in front of portraits of other artists including Kiki Smith, not Close’s portrait of Sherman. The second to last photo misidentifies model and artist Sienna Shields as Kara Walker.

    • Thanks for letting us know! Sherman’s portrait is located behind Close and cannot be seen in the photo. The caption was updated so the meaning is now clear. The error of misidentifying Sienna Shields for Kara Walker has been corrected. -Pat Rogers
