HAMPTONS & EAST END-

Fourth of July weekend arrives and brings with bright sunshine, firework-dappled nights and lots of art openings to the Hamptons and the East End. Here is the weekly guide of where to find art happenings in the Hamptons and on the East End.

AMAGANSETT 

KARMA - “TOPANGA” by Sam Falls has an Opening Reception on Thursday (July 4) from 5 to 8 p.m. The exhibition remains on view through July 22. The gallery is located at 249 Main Street, Amagansett, NY 11930. www.karmakarma.org.

NEOTERIC FINE ART -  Sophia Collier: “Light Waves” and Peter Dayton: “Surf Shop” has an Opening Reception on Friday from 7 to 10 p.m. Collier will exhibit carved water-like surfaces from acrylic block using software and technology. Dayton will exhibit panel paintings made from surfboards and other materials found in surf shops. The exhibition remains on view through July 31. BRIDGEHAMPTON

PIERRE’S RESTAURANT - “Solo Show by Mark Perry” has an Opening Reception on Saturday from 3 to 6 p.m. Mark Perry will also be exhibiting at ArtHamptons in the Vogelsang Gallery booth from July 11 - 14. EAST HAMPTON/SPRINGS 

ARTISTS ALLIANCE OF EAST HAMPTON at ASHAWAGH HALL - “19th Annual Summer Member Art Exhibit” has an Opening Reception on Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. The show will feature over 80 artists in a variety of mediums. The exhibition remains on view through July 14. Ashawagh Hall is located at 780 Springs Fireplace Rd, Springs, NY 11937. www.ashawagh-hall.org.

BIRNAM WOOD/GALLERIES - “Human Touch: Figures and Lives” has an Opening Reception on Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. Participating artists include John Hardy, Margaret Bowland, Aurelia Wasser, Susan Grossman, and Clifford Smith. ERIC FIRESTONE GALLERY - “Dark Star: New Works by Sanford Biggers” has an Opening Reception on Saturday from 6 to 9 p.m. The exhibition is a continuation of the aritst’s series of quilts reflecting on the travels of slaves through the Underground Railroad and the ways in which information was passed between them. GLENN HOROWITZ BOOKSELLER - "Joel Perlman - Maquettes" has an Opening Reception on Saturday from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Upper Gallery. On view are a series of original cast bronze maquettes with varying patinas.The show continues through Aug 4. HAMPTONS INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL at GUILD HALL - “SummerDocs: GASLAND PART II” will screen on Friday at 8 p.m. Q&A to follow with director Josh Fox and moderated by Alec Baldwin. The film examines environmental concerns and in particular “fracking” (hydraulic fracturing). Guild Hall is located at 158 Main Street  East Hampton, NY 11937. www.guildhall.org

POLLOCK-KRASNER HOUSE AND STUDY CENTER - Tribute Celebration to Jeffrey Brackett Potter will be held on Sunday from 5 to 7 p.m. Admission is free. No reservations required. Potter was instrumental to the development of the Pollock-Kranser House and his archives are significant holdings in the Study Center’s research collection. Potter is the author of “To a Violent Grave: An Oral Biography of Jackson Pollock” (Putnam, 1985).

SHELTER ISLAND

THE PERLMAN MUSIC PROGRAM - Annual Faculty Concert is presented on Friday at 7:30 p.m. at the Clarks Art Center, PMP Campus. Free. PARRISH ART MUSEUM - “East End or Busk: SisterMonk” concert takes place on Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. SisterMonk is a NYC based group made up of Jody Rubel, Kathleen Deane, Tatiana Tilsner, and Andy Buch. PARRISH ART MUSEUM - Parrish Platform - Installations by Josephine Meckseper” opens on Thursday (July 4) and remains on view through Oct 14. The installations are the second presentation of “Parrish Platform.” Meckseper's installations question the power of advertising and the consumerism that characterizes our society.
