ILLE ARTS PRESENTS PHILIP GLASS & JON GIBSON IN CONCERT ON JUNE 8

ILLE ARTS presents an evening of sublime music performed on June 8 by world-renown musician and composer Philip Glass and saxophonist Jon Gibson to support ILLE ARTS' new and on-going programs. The recital begins with a cocktail reception and silent art auction with works by Mary Heilmann, Don Christensen, Sydney Albertini, EL Brown and more.

The benefit concert will be held on Saturday, June 8, at 9 Goodfriend Drive, East Hampton, NY 11937. The evening begins at 6 p.m. with cocktails and silent auction. The concert takes place at 7 p.m.

Philip Glass is a renowned composer whose work has been performed worldwide. Over the last 25 years, Glass has composed operas, symphonies, piano concertos, concertos for violin, piano, timpani, and saxophone quartet and orchestra; soundtracks for films, and works for experimental theater, solo piano and organ.

His operas include “Einstein on the Beach” (with Robert Wilson), “Satyagraha,” “Akhnaten,” and “The Voyage.” Film scores include for Academy Award-winners “The Hours” and Martin Scorsese’s “Kundun."

Glass has collaborated with Robert Wilson, Paul Simon, Linda Ronstadt, Yo-Yo Ma, and Doris Lessing and others.

He performs regularly with the Philip Glass Ensemble, the group he founded in 1967.

Jon Gibson is a composer, multi-wind instrumentalist (saxophones, flutes, clarinets) and visual artist with three and a half decades of musicianship to his credit. Gibson performed early works by pioneer minimal composers Steve Reich, Terry Riley, LaMonte Young and Philip Glass, who he continues to perform with.

Gibson has recorded for New Tone, Point Music, Lovely Music, EarRational Records and Einstein Records labels, according to his website. In addition, he appears on recordings by Glass, Reich, Frederick Rzewski, Arthur Russell, Annea Lockwood, Peter Zummo and Robert Ashley.

Throughout his career, Gibson has collaborates with musicians, choreographers and dancers in various configurations. Collaborators have included Merce Cunningham, Nancy Topf, Lucinda Childs, JoAnne Akalaitis, Simone Forti, Thomas Buckner and others, according to his website.

The June 8 benefit concert for ILLE Arts presents a unique opportunity to hear these two music greats in an intimate setting. The cocktail party and art preview provides the opportunity to meet and mingle with the famous musicians. Many of the artists contributing work to the silent auction are also expected to be in attendance.

ILLE ARTS, owned and curated by Sara De Luca, opened to great acclaim a year ago. The gallery is located at 216 Main Street, Amagansett, NY. Ms. De Luca is committed to supporting dedicated artists both established and emerging.

"Our mission is to exhibit outstanding provocative art and to provide a venue where those works can be experienced to their fullest," said De Luca.

The gallery is gearing up for an exciting summer season with a packed calendar of exhibitions and events. ILLE ARTS sponsors many cultural and educational events year round that include studio tours, poetry evenings and music.  This year's programming will be expanded to include tours, Sunday Session Talks, student internships and more.

Currently on view is a solo show by Alex Markwith. Opening on May 11 is a solo show of new work by Sydney Albertini. "Stuffed and Other Feelings" will be exhibited from May 11 through June 3. Albertini will also exhibit this summer as part of the Parrish Art Museum's Road Show. The series presents solo shows of site-specific works set in places other than the art museum in Water Mill, NY.

ILLE ARTS summer exhibition schedule will present shows that center on landscape, portraiture, abstraction and more presented through a mix of group shows and two-person shows. Details will be posted on the gallery's website as the season unfolds.
