The inbox is now open for artists interested in the "Artists Choose Artists" juried biennial exhibition at the Parrish Art Museum. The museum just issued an open call for artists living on the East End of Long Island. Artworks in all media will be considered. The only hitch is that artists must live full or part-time in a zip code area beginning with 119. Applications will be accepted online through June 28, 2013.
This year's jurors are Laurie Anderson, Judy Hudson, Mel Kendrick, David Salle, Ned Smyth, Keith Sonnier, and Robert Wilson. Each juror picks two artists for the biennial. The artists selected will exhibit alongside work of the artist who greenlighted their acceptance.
This year's "Artists Choose Artists" will be held from Nov 10, 2013 through Jan 19, 2014.
"Artists Choose Artists" is designed to catalyze creative networks and to encourage mentorships and conversations between artists at varying stages in their careers, according to the Parrish. Typically, jurors review all the submissions and then make studio visits to consider the artwork they find compelling. This is the beginning of the cross-pollination of artistic talent.
These initial connections may be captured on film and become part of the exhibition record. In the 2011 "Artists Choose Artists" exhibition., excerpts from filmed studio visits were screened at the biennial opening. An online gallery provided a closer look at the art and artists who were part of the show.
In 2011, the artist jurors were Alice Aycock, Ross Bleckner, Dan Rizzie, Mathew Satz, Garry Simmons, Agathe Snow and Frank Wimberley.
Artists selected were Kryn Olson, Mike Solomon, Renate Aller, Mary Ellen Bartley, Ross Watts, Tad Wiley, Terry Elkins, Liliya Lifanova, Perry Burns, Melinda Hackett, Alice Hope, Nella Khanis, Fulvio Massi and Julie Small-Gamby.
In 2009, the exhibition was titled “Mixed Greens.” Artist jurors were John Alexander, Michael Combs, April Gornik, Mary Heilmann, Richard Kalina, Michelle Stuart, Donald Sultan, John Torreano and Joe Zucker.
Selected artists were Jessica Benjamin, Peter Dayton, Frazer P. Dougherty, Stephen Laub, Jody Pinto, Randall Rosenthal, Kevin Teare, Ellen Wiener and Lucy Winton.
BASIC INFO: Applications for artists living on the East End of Long Island can apply for consideration for the juried 2013 "Artist Choose Artists" biennial exhibition. The deadline is June 28, 2013. Submissions can be made online at parrishart.slideroom.com. There is a $10 fee to apply.
The exhibition will be held from Nov 10, 2013 to Jan 19, 2014.
