There's plenty of reasons to celebrate this weekend--the holidays, the world not ending, friends, family and joy in general. Here are a  few ways the arts community is marking the holidays plus events with an art bent.

AMAGANSETT

NEOTERIC FINE ART - "Amagansett, Armageddon" opens on Friday from 7 p.m. to Midnight. The exhibition presents artwork that interpretations of the end of the world and the rebirth of the next. (The Mayans believed 12.21.12 marks the end of our times). The opening includes live music by Blind Prophet and Negro Cabrera. The exhibition continues through Jan 15, 2013.

Exhibiting artists are Christine Sciulli, Alexis Rockman, Rossa Williams Cole,  Perry Burns, Grant Haffner, Carly Haffner, Nika Nesgoda, Virva Hinnemo, Kenneth Joel Murphy, Dalton Portella, Melissa Mapes, Scott Bluedorn, Rory Evenson-Phair, Dan Resnick,
Alexander McCue, Thomas LaGrassa, Martine Langatta and Daniel Cabrera.

BRIDGEHAMPTON

PETER MARCELLE GALLERY – “The Women, Part I” has a reception on Sat from 6 to 8 p.m. All of the exhibiting artists live on Eastern Long Island. The show runs through Jan 7, 2013. Artists include Linda Capello, Miriam Dougenis, Cornelia Foss, Gina Gilmour, Sue Ferguson Gussow, Lori Hollander, Janet Jennings, Jane Johnson, Anna Jurinich, Karen Kluglein, Brooke Laughlin, Elizabeth Malunowicz, Mary McCormick, Michelle Murphy, Louise Peabody, Susan Lazarus Reimen, Alexandra Strada and others.

CUTCHOGUE

ALEX FERRONE PHOTOGRAPHY GALLERY holds a Holiday Cheer celebration on Saturday from 3 to 7 p.m. The new photography gallery opened this week and features work by Alex Ferrone to help launch the gallery. Proceeds from selected photography benefits victims of Superstorm Sandy. The gallery is located at 25425 Main Rd, Cutchogue, NY. SAG HARBOR

CANIO'S BOOKS - "Winter Whites" - Photographs by Kathryn Szoka opening and Holiday Open House Reception will be held on Saturday from 4 to 6 p.m. The exhibition features landscapes and night blooming cereus's found in the Rain Forest. MONIKA OLKO GALLERY - "Holiday Event" takes place on Saturday from 5 to 9 p.m. Features painting by Zhije Wang, handpainted leather goods by Terry Sarro and handmade jewelry from France. The gallery is located at 95 Main St, Sag Harbor, NY. www.monikaolkogallery.com.

WATERMILL

PARRISH ART MUSEUM – “East End Stories on Screen” takes place on Friday at 6 p.m. Screening is 14 Americans: Directions in the 1970s. The film is directed by Michael Blackwood and features artists with an East End connection. They include Laurie Anderson, Alice Aycock, Peter Campus, Chuck Close, Dennis Oppenheim, Dorothea Rockburne and others. The museum is located at 279 Montauk Hwy, Water Mill, NY. www.parrishart.org
