This weekend's opening of the new Parrish Art Museum is big news. Saturday's Grand Opening will unveil two temporary exhibitions plus seven permanent exhibitions of artwork from the museum's collection. This weekend also brings plenty of action in the Hamptons gallery scene. Here's what's new at the galleries:
AMAGANSETT
CRAZY MONKEY GALLERY - “Daniel Schoenheimer” and “Tina Andrews” have an opening reception on Saturday from 5 to 7 p.m. Schoenheimer will show photographs featuring East End landscapes. Andrews will exhibit sculpture and painting. A members group show includes art by Andrea McCafferty, Barbara Bilotta, Jim Hayden, Bob Tucker, June Kaplan, Mark E. PIERRE’S RESTAURANT - “Solo show by Andre Divet” has an opening reception on Saturday from 3 to 6 p.m. The show is inspired by Art Deco aesthetics. The show runs through Nov 28. The restaurant is located at 2468 Main Street, Bridgehampton, NY.
EAST HAMPTON
GLENN HOROWITZ BOOKSELLER - “Billy Sullivan: Bird Drawings” and “Lucy Winton: Creatures” have an opening reception on Saturday from 6 to 8 p.m. The opening is the premiere of the limited edition book BIRDS, featuring drawings by Sullivan. ART GALLERY at the QUOGUE LIBRARY - “The Art of Wine and Vines” has an opening reception on Saturday from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. A Guided Wine Talk on Long Island wines immediately follows. The talk is presented by Eileen M. Duffy, deputy editor of Edible East End Magazine. Exhibiting artists include Keith Mantell, Aubrey Grainger, Jake Rajs, Lovejoy Duryea, Liz Duerschmidt, Priscilla Ruffin, Susan D’Alessio, Patricia Feiler and many others. LYCEUM GALLERY AT SUFFOLK COUNTY COMMUNITY COLLEGE - “SCCC Eastern Campus Student Art Exhibit” has an opening reception on Thursday (Nov 15) from 4 to 6 p.m. There are over 75 artworks in the show. They include photography, graphic design, digital art and interior design. The show runs through Dec 12. The gallery is located on SCCC's Eastern Campus at 2 Speonk Road, Riverhead, NY. THE PARRISH ART MUSEUM - "“Malcolm Morley: Painting, Paper, Process” and “Genius Loci” by Hope Sandrow opens on Saturday during the first Grand Open House unveiling the new art museum. Also opening are seven exhibitions of works from the museum's permanent collection.
They are “Selected Recent Acquisitions: Building a Collection,” “Look and Look Again: Contemporary Observation,” “American Views: Artists at Home and Abroad,” “William Merritt Chase: A Life in Art,” “Fairfield Porter: Modern American Master,” “Esteban Vicente: Portrait of the Artist” and “Collective Conversations: Abstract Expressionism, Figuration, and Pop.”
