HAMPTONS & NORTH FORK, NY

Clean up from Hurricane Sandy continues and long lines are beginning to snake around gas stations, when they have gas in their pumps. Storm recovery aside, new art shows are happening on the East End this weekend. Art openings are being held in East Hampton and Bridgehampton. New exhibitions open in Quogue and Jamesport with special events planned for next weekend.

The Parrish Art Museum cancelled the first Open House for the new museum planned for Sunday. It has been rescheduled to Saturday, Nov 10, from 9 to 11 a.m.

BRIDGEHAMPTON

PETER MARCELLE GALLERY - “Anna Jurinich” has an opening reception on Saturday from 6 to 8 p.m. Paintings explore the human condition or Jurinich's personal world. The show runs through Nov 12. The gallery is located at 2411 Main Street, Bridgehampton, NY. www.petermarcellecontemporary.com

EAST HAMPTON/SPRINGS 

ASHAWAGH HALL - “Small Works - Big Views” has an opening reception on Saturday from 5 to 8 p.m. Participating artists include Susan D’Alessio, Kathryn Szoka, Casey Chalem Anderson, Anita Kusick, Lieve Thiers and Michele Margit. The weekend-only show is open on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and on Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. A portion of art sales benefits the East Hampton Food Pantry. ROSS GALLERY - “FACE OFF - CONTEMPORARY PORTRAITS” has an opening reception on Friday from 4 to 6 p.m. Featured artists include Sydney Albertini, Jack Ceglic, John Hardy, Christa Maiwald, Christina Schlesinger and others. The show was curated by students in The Ross School's Museum Studies Class, led by Visual Arts Chairperson Jennifer Cross. The exhibit continues through Dec 15. The gallery is located at 18 Goodfriend Drive, East Hampton, NY.

THE DRAWING ROOM - “Sharon Horvath” and “Diane Mayo” have an opening reception on Saturday from 5 to 7 p.m. Mayo will exhibit new ceramic vessels. Horvath will present new paintings. The show runs through Jan 6, 2013. The gallery is located at 66H Newtown Lane, East Hampton, NY. www.drawingroom-gallery.com

JAMESPORT

ROSALIE DIMON GALLERY at Jamesport Manor Inn - “Ivan Kustura" and "Stephen Bitel” solo shows open on Saturday. An artist reception will be held on Nov 25 from 3 to 5 p.m. Kustura will exhibit contemporary oil paintings with Modernist, Cubist and Surreal influences. Bitel exhibits semi-abstract photographs. The show runs through Jan 30, 2013. The gallery is curated by East End Arts. The Rosalie Dimon Gallery is located at 370 Manor Lane, Jamesport, NY 11947. www.jamesportmanorinn.com

QUOGUE

ART GALLERY at the QUOGUE LIBRARY - "The Art of Wine and Vines" opens on Friday. The exhibition continues through Nov 28. On Nov 10, an artist reception takes place from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. followed by a Guided Wine Talk on Long Island wines by Eileen M. Duffy, deputy editor of Edible East End Magazine. Exhibiting artists include Keith Mantell, Aubrey Grainger, Jake Rajs, Lovejoy Duryea, Liz Duerschmidt, Priscilla Ruffin, Susan D’Alessio, Patricia Feiler and many others. The gallery is located at 90 Quogue Street, Quogue, NY 11959.

    You might want to check the Parrish web site on the events planned for this weekend. I believe the opening is canceled. Best to double check in case there are new changes.

    • Hi Steve-
      Thanks for letting me know! I’ve changed the reference to the Parrish’s planned Open House this weekend in the Art Round Up. When the story posted, the museum still listed all events as active on their website. Multiple attempts to confirm information with the museum were unsuccessful. By all appearances, it seemed as if the weekend events were going forward. Guess Sandy threw a sneaky curve ball!
