Getting Creative to Fight Cancer 0

Susie Barry Roden isn’t one to shy away from cancer. She also knows that wonderful things happen when creativity turns to fight cancer.
Roden’s a ground-floor organizer for the annual fundraisers The Birdhouse Auction and The Reconstructed Bra Fashion Show and Auction. Both raise money to assist those battling cancer through Southampton-based programs.
Now, Roden’s wearing a producer’s hat for the new YouTube video, Rapping Ellen’s Run.
Ellen’s Run took place this morning in Southampton. Now that the race is over and sneakers tossed into the closet, Roden hopes Rapping Ellen’s Run will keep awareness strong.
Actually, she hopes for quite a bit more. If the video goes viral, it may get noticed by The Today Show or Ellen DeGeneres, Roden wrote in an email.
For the video, Suffolk County Legislator Jay Schneiderman lent his drumming and grooving skills. Don’t be surprised to spy Roden and others who may be familiar.

BASIC FACTS: Ellen’s Run is a fundraiser for The Ellen Hermanson Foundation. Proceeds support the Ellen Hermanson Breast Center at Southampton Hospital and Ellen’s Well. The Foundation has funded “much state-of-the-art technology at Southampton Hospital, such as digital mammography equipment,” according to its website.

The Birdhouse Auction was founded by artist, curator and gallerist Karyn Mannix. The event features the talents of area artists and others who create unique birdhouses for auction. http://southforkbreastbirdhouseauction.wordpress.com/
The Reconstructed Bra raised money for Heaven Can Wait, a Hamptons walking team participating in the Long Island 2 Day Walk for Beast Cancer. Proceeds benefited Southampton-based breast health organizations including Lucia’s Angels, the Coalition for Women’s Cancers at Southampton Hospital, and the Ellen Hermanson Breast Center.
This year’s fundraiser included artists Pat Kochie, Tom Kochie, Karyn Mannix and others. Tom Kochie is the On Set Photographer for Rapping Ellen’s Run.
