DISPATCH - APRIL 27, 2011 (Wednesday) time unspecified
It's that time of year again...when the Hampton art scene starts to gurgle.
The frantic race to exhibit art and attend exhibitions hasn't begun. It's still pre-season.
What's happening now is the warm-up.
New galleries are quietly sprouting. Artists and gallery directors are finalizing exhibition plans. Ashawagh Hall in Springs (East Hampton) has started a steady stream of weekend exhibitions.
Guild Hall unofficially launches the season on May 7, 2011 with its 72nd Annual Artist Members Exhibition. The non-juried (but judged) exhibition in on view through June 11, 2011. Another harbinger of the season--the Springs Improvement Society's annual Memorial Weekend Members Art Show--appears, as always, on the three-day holiday weekend.
I have high hopes for chronicling this season's art happenings. Last season wasn't a good one for blogging. This one has promise.
The goal is one dispatch per week. Through these missives, a picture of the East End art scene and its historic art colonies should emerge. (South Fork & North Fork). That's the plan.
So get ready and raise a glass...To art and discovery!
